2027 feature story calendar.

The observances and seasons editors plan around, month by month, with the dates checked and a story angle for each.

Short answer

Seasonal moments give a feature story a reason to run that week. In 2027 the big fixed dates include Mother's Day on May 9, Labor Day on September 6 and Thanksgiving on November 25. Monthly observances include National Nutrition Month in March and Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Work backwards from the date: allow up to 30 days for distribution, plus the time your team needs to write and approve the story.

Feature stories that tie into a season or an observance give editors a reason to run them that week. Use this as a planning list: pick the moments that fit your company, then work backwards from the date.

Dates marked "under federal law" or "a federal holiday" follow fixed rules. Days like Valentine's Day and Earth Day fall on the same date every year. Monthly observances link to the organizer's own site. Check any date before you build a campaign on it.

To put every fixed date in Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar, download the 2027 calendar file (.ics). Dates not yet announced, and the tax deadline the IRS can move, are left out.

Questions

When should I start a seasonal feature story?

Work backwards: the date, minus up to 30 days for distribution, minus the time your team needs to write and approve the story. With NewsUSA, stories run on 2,000+ US news sites within 30 days.

Are these 2027 dates confirmed?

Dates set by federal law or as federal holidays follow fixed rules. Monthly observances are held in the same month every year, according to each organizer's site. GivingTuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Fire Prevention Week and National Small Business Week had not announced 2027 dates when this page was made, and the IRS confirms each year's filing deadline.

Do stories have to be tied to an observance?

No. A useful, evergreen story can run any time. A seasonal tie-in simply gives editors one more reason to run it now.

How this page was made

Monthly observances: the month as stated on each organizer's own website, read on November 5, 2026. Federal dates were computed from the rules in 5 U.S.C. 6103 (federal holidays), 15 U.S.C. 260a (daylight saving time) and 36 U.S.C. 109 and 117 (Father's Day and Mother's Day). Story angles are suggestions by NewsUSA. NewsUSA figures (2,000+ US news sites within 30 days, live-only billing, the 2,637-site September 2026 campaign) come from NewsUSA and its campaign reports, which Todd Simon can show you on the call.
