Guide

How long it takes to get a story on news sites.

Each route runs on a different clock. Here is what sets the pace, and how to plan around a date.

Short answer

It depends on the route. A wire release goes out the day you choose, but any coverage follows on the journalist's schedule. Pitching has no fixed timeline. Sponsored posts run when the publisher schedules them. With NewsUSA, a story you have approved runs on 2,000+ US news sites within 30 days, and one September 2026 campaign ran on 2,637 news sites in under two weeks.

What slows a feature campaign down

Distribution runs on a set window. Most delays come before it:

  • Approval loops. Every round of edits between marketing, leadership and legal adds days. Agree in advance who signs off.
  • A moving angle. Changing what the story is about after it is written means starting again.
  • Seasonal timing. A winter story approved in February misses its season. Start a seasonal story well before the season.

Planning around a date

If the story needs to be out before a launch, an event or a season, work backwards: the date you need, minus the distribution window, minus time to write and approve the story. With NewsUSA, deliverables are agreed in writing before anything starts. Tell Todd Simon the date you are working to on the strategy call.

If you need something public on one exact day, a wire release is the more precise tool. The difference is set out in alternatives to a press release wire.

Questions

How fast can I get my company's story on news sites?

A wire release goes out the same day, but coverage depends on journalists. With NewsUSA, a story you have approved runs on 2,000+ US news sites within 30 days; one September 2026 campaign ran on 2,637 news sites in under two weeks.

Can a syndicated story run on one specific day?

Syndicated stories appear across a window rather than on a single day. If one exact date matters, use a wire release or a sponsored post for that day, and syndication for reach around it.

What slows a campaign down the most?

Approvals. Agree who signs off on the story before it is written.
